Two green plants are kept separately in | Class 10 Science Chapter Life Processes, Life Processes NCERT Solutions

Question:

Two green plants are kept separately in oxygen free containers, one in the dark and the other in continuous light. Which one will live longer? Give reasons.

Answer:

Plants that are kept in continuous light will live longer because plants need sunlight for making the food and by consuming oxygen and release of carbon dioxide during the respiration process. Whereas in the case where plants are kept in the dark will not live longer because they cannot make their food when nutrients will no longer be available for them and release of carbon dioxide accumulates in the dark environment and then due to lack of oxygen there, the plant will die soon.
