Plants have low energy needs as compared to animals. Explain.
As the plants do not contain a well defined circulatory system but they perform the transportation of materials process. In this transportation of water occurs through the xylem, minerals are absorbed by the roots and translocation of organic solutes in the form of food occurs through the phloem. Transport of minerals into and out of the cell is performed by three processes- diffusion, facilitated diffusion and active transportation process. Diffusion is a passive process which does not require the energy for the transportation process. As in animals, for performing the life processes activities they need a high amount of energy but plants do not. Plants stand still at one place, grow in the soil and need only sunlight energy for the production of food. Hence plants require low energy as compared to animals.
