The methods adopted to spread the message of dhamma were as follows:
- Ashoka appointed officials which are called as the dhamma mahamatta who went from one place to another place for teaching people about dhamma.
- Ashoka got his message by writing on rocks and pillars or by giving instructions to his officials to read his message to those who could not read it by themselves.
- Ashoka also sent messengers to spread the ideas about dhamma to other lands like Syria, Egypt, Greece and sri lanka.
