II. Answer each of these questions in a short paragraph (about 30 words).
1. How did Santosh begin to climb mountains?
2. What incidents during the Everest expedition show Santosh’s concern for her team-mates?
3. What shows her concern for the environment?
4. How does she describe her feelings at the summit of the Everest?
5. Santosh Yadav got into the record books both times she scaled Mt Everest. What were the reasons for this?

Answer:

1. Santosh saw the people from her room kasturba hostel was going up the aravalli hills and got vanished soon. On investigating, she found a few mountaineers, and asked if she could join them together. They showed the consent and agreed and even motivated her to climb up on hills. She later gave a company to them on their climbing adventure. This was, how she started climbing mountain.

2. During the everest mission, Santosh showed great concern towards the fellow climbers. Though she was not able to save the life of one of them, she somehow managed to save the life of another climber through artificial respiration technique.

3. Santosh was a passionate environmentalist. Her concern towards the environment was very evident from the fact that she made an effort to collect and bring down 500 k.g of garbage from the Himalayas.

4. Santosh asserted that her feeling at the summit of the everest was not descriable. unfurling the Indian flag on the top of the world was a spiritual moment for her and she felt proud as an Indian.

5. When santosh yadav first scaled Mt everest, she had became the youngest women in the world to achieve that feat, when she scaled everest for the second time, then became the only women in the history to have scaled it two times.
