Bismillah khan got his big break in Year 1938. The allindia radio started in lucknow and Bismillah kan played shehnai instrument on the radio. He then became very famous on radio and become the first Indian to greet the nation with his shehnai at the red fort on Independence day at 15 August, 1947.
On 15 august 1947, Bismillah khan played the raag kaafi on his shehnai instrument at the red fort. The event was a historical moment because it was the occasion of india’s independence from the british rule.
Bismillah khan denied the request to take initiative for the shehnai school in U.S.A as he would not live far away from Hindustan, specifically from banaras, the river ganga and dumraon.
