What will happen if mucus is not secreted by the gastric glands?
Mucus is secreted by the mucous glands. The mucous lubricates the food and sticks it together and also lubricates the digestive tract so that food moves through it easily. Mucous coat also protects the underlying cells from the digestive enzymes and prevents the lining of the stomach from HCL.
