Is water conservation necessary? Give reasons.
About 71% of the water covers the earth surface and oceans cover 96.5% of all the earth. Water is one of the natural resources that we can’t live without, this is the basic necessity of all the living organisms on the earth. Or, we need freshwater for the survival and this is available only 1% on the earth, so we need to conserve fresh water. There are some reasons to conserve water are following:-
1. As the population increasing, the demand for water is automatically increasing.
2. Water pollution is increasing day by day by the human activities (people throw garbage in the river, lakes, beaches etc.), by discharge of industrial effluents, pesticides, fertilizers. Thus we need to safeguard ourselves from health hazards by conserving water with the good quality.
3. Keeping the tap open during taking bath, brushing teeth etc.
4. Mis- management of the water resources or over- exploitation leads to the depletion of water.
5. In some areas water is not equally distributed, thus population is facing water scarcity.
For the long term usage of water we need to overcome these conditions in the environment. Water conservation is the best method to have clean or pure water. This water purification will protect the water for the future generation, i.e, for sustainable use. Many water conservation techniques are given like Drip Irrigation, Laser Field Leveling, Sub- surface Irrigation etc.
