Refractive index of glass, μ = 1.5

We know, Speed of light, c = 3 × 10⁸ m/s

So, speed of light in glass can be calculated by the relation, v= c/µ = 3x10⁸ / 1.5 = 2x10⁸

Hence, the speed of light in glass is 2 × 10⁸ m/s.

(b) No, the refractive index and the speed of light in a medium depend on wavelength i.e. colour of light.

We know that μ _v > μ_r . Therefore, v _voilet < v _red . Hence voilet component of white light travels slower than the red component in a glass prism.
