In each of the following situations what happens to the rate of photosynthesis?
(a) Cloudy days
(b) No rainfall in the area
(c) Good manuring in the area
(d) Stomata get blocked due to dust
a) As the plants need sunlight to make the food i.e, need good quantities of light intensity. In cloudy days, sunlight intensity will be low and hence the rate of photosynthesis will decrease as well.
b) If there is no rainfall in the area, the rate of photosynthesis will decrease because water is the main component of the photosynthesis. Plants take water from the environment and break down occurs into two molecules- free oxygen and hydrogen ion for the use.
c) Manuring in the area has no effect on the rate of photosynthesis because manuring is the organic matter used as fertilizers to improve the fertility of the soil by adding nutrients and organic matter.
d) Blockage of stomata due to dust reduces the rate of photosynthesis because stomata helps in the exchange of gases as well as the rate of transpiration or evaporation and affects the consumption of carbon dioxide from the environment.
