Define aestivation.

Answer:

Aestivation is also known as the summer sleep and is prolonged torpor or dormancy of an insect, fish and other some animals during hot dry period; or we can say that is a state of dormancy characterized by inactivation and low metabolic rate in response to high temperature and dry conditions. For example: Ground squirrels of the South- western deserts undergoes summer sleep and lie dormant inside the burrows during hot dry periods.
