Mrs Pumphrey was worried about her dog Tricki. She was shocked to see Tricki because he looked bloated like a sausage, his tongue was rolling out of his mouth. It was looking like that he had no energy in his body and was suffering from malnutrition. He was even refusing his favourite dishes to ear and had bouts of vomiting. He spent all his time lying on the rug and painting.
She had made her plans very wisely. According to her, the only way to help Tricki was to get in him out of the house and to get him hospitalized for a night. And Yes, her decision to call the doctor was wise. She fainted or swooned and wailed but let the dog go with the doctor so that he can get well. Ultimately, the doctor was successful in curing Tricki without any medication.

Though it is not clearly started but there are several instances in the story which suggest that the narrator is not as rich as Mrs Pumphrey, tricki’s mistress. While the narrator provides tricki with a warm loose box as a bed instead of having multiple beds like tricki had a day bed, night bed, cushions, toys, rubber rings, a breakfast bowl in Mrs. Pumphrey’s house. When he arrives to take the dog with him, Mrs. Pumphrey called her entire staff at her disposal to transfer all of tricki’s belongings to the doctor’s car. By hearing from the doctor about tricki’s slow and gradual recovery, Mrs Pumphrey send two dozen eggs at a time along with wine bottles and brandy in order to help in his speedy recovery.
The doctor did not give food and medicines but plenty of water for two days to the dog. Slowly, Tricki started showing interest in his surroundings and started mixing with the other dogs at the hospital. One day the doctor saw tricki was licking the empty shining bowl of the dogs and on the very next day doctor was amazed to note that Tricki had a fast run to eat his food with enthusiasm. From that day onwards, his progress was very rapid which shows he did not require any kind of medicinal treatment and recovered quite well at the end.
Mrs Pumphrey had started bringing eggs to build tricki’s strength along with wine bottles and brandy. The narrator and his partners started enjoying the eggs, wine and brandy which was bring up by Mrs Pumphrey for tricki. According to the narrator, they were days of deep content for them that was started with the extra egg in the morning, then the midday wine and then finally finishing the day with brandy. that is why the narrator was tempted to keep Tricki on as a permanent guest.
Mrs Pumphrey thought that Tricki’s recovery was a triumph of surgery because in two weeks he had recovered completely and had been transformed into a hard and muscular animal from a weak dog who was being lazy all the time with his tongue rolling out of his mouth. When Tricki saw her, he leaped into her lap and licked her face with joy. She was so excited to see him like this and then tears started rolling out of her eyes.
I think Mr. Herriot who is a veterinary surgeon, is very tactful person. He knows how to deal with the people. He has the ability to coddle himself according to the circumstances. He immediately get to understand the tricki’s problem, as he doesn’t suffer from any sort of illness. The main reason of his illness is overfeeding. He takes the dog to his surgery. There he keeps him in the natural environment. He took the dog under his supervision and natural environment of surgery so that he gets well soon.
Tricki really had a good time with other dogs in his surgery time. But Tricki was really more happier to get back to home. We can result it out from the case when Mrs. Pumphrey came to take Tricki. when he saw her, he leaped into her laps and started licking her face. Tricki was brought for the surgery. But he got cured in two days without any medication. The proper healthy diet and regular exercise helped a lot in his speedy recovery. Tricki regained his best health and was no longer seen without energy. Now I think same indulge will start again. Mrs. Pumphrey will take excessive care of the dog and again overfeed him.
This story could be a mixture of both that is real life episode and a mere fiction. Mrs. Pumphrey is a rich lady and has her own pet dog. This is because of her pampering nature that she overfeeds her dog which results in his illness. In spite of the fact that she had good intention in her mind but excess of everything is bad. This episode can be seen as a fiction who do not take it seriously and also it can be called real life for those parents who does excessive care of their child.
