Margie and Tommy had mechanical teachers in their school. They had large, black and ugly screens on which all the lesson were shown or taught and question were asked on that screen. These mechanical teachers had a fixed or particular time in which the students had to put their homework and text papers. They had to write their answer in a punch code and after that the mechanical teacher calculated the marks.

Exercise 3 ( Page No. : 11 )

Margie had been given several tests in geography which was taken by the mechanical teacher but there was no progression in her performance. Marks went from bad to the worst. This is the reason that Margie’s mother sent the country inspector to find out the reason because of which this was happening.

The country inspector gave an apple to Margie and initiated his working on the mechanical teacher. Margie expected that the inspector would not know how to put the mechanical teacher together again but somehow he managed to reassemble it by his own efforts. Margie was doing not so good in geography because the geography sector which is taught by the mechanical teacher had been geared a little too fast. The country inspector told it wasn’t her fault that she was not performing well, then he slowed down the geography sector of the mechanical teacher to an average 10 year level. He also told mrs. Exercise 4 ( Page No. : 12 )
Q:
A:

Margie and tommy had mechanical teachers. They had big black screens on which all the lessons were shown and question were being asked. They had a time slot in which students had to put their homework and test papers and also had to write their answer in a punch code and the mechanical teacher calculated the marks immediately. Their schools were in homes ownself. They didn't have any classmates. They learned geography, history and arithmetic subjects. They had regular interval of days and hours for the school. Margie’s school was right next to her bedroom in her home. The mechanical teacher always turned on at the same time every expert Saturdays and Sundays because her mother said that little girls learned better when they learned at regular interval of days and hours.

Exercise 4 ( Page No. : 12 )
Q:
A:

Margie didn't like the school at all because although the lessons were taught through technical devices but they had to write all the homework and assignments on the paper and had to put them in a slot. She had been doing worse in the geography's subject tests that her mechanical teacher had been giving her. The part that she hated the most was doing the homework and tests papers in the slot of the mechanical teacher. She thought that the earlier time's school was a unique place where children came and studied together. They also used to travel together which would be fun and exciting.

Exercise 4 ( Page No. : 12 )
Q:
A:

Yes, I agree to the facts that schools of today are more fun than the school are represented in the story. In the story, there is no interaction among the students. Doing homework without anybody’s help and writing them in a punch code seems to be a very boring idea. Moreover, children required a healthier way of learning to develop an understanding about each other listening to teachers explaining lesson is always more fun than reading the entire lesson on a mechanical computer. Also, if any student faces any type of problem he can discuss it with the teacher and to the other kids also. It is impossible to discuss problems and situations with a mechanical teacher which is only programmed to teach in a particular manner.

Exercise 5 ( Page No. : 12 )
Q:
A:

They turned the pages, which were yellow in colour and crumpled and it was awfully funny to read the words that stood still instead of moving the way were supposed to- on a screen, you know.
- The mechanical teacher had been giving her geography test after test and she had been doing worse and worse until her mother had shaken her head sorrowfully and sent the country inspector to her for finding the reason.
- They had taken away Tommy’s teacher for about a month once because the history sector had blanked out completely.
- He added insolently pronouncing the word carefully centuries ago.
- But my mother says a teacher has to be adjusted to fit the mind of each boy and girl whichever they teaches and each kid has to be taught differently.
- I didn’t say I didn’t like it, Margie said quickly.
- May be, he said non- chalantly.
