Poaching of tiger is a burning issue in today's world. What implication would this activity have on the functioning of the ecosystem of which the tigers are an integral part?

Answer:

Poaching is a major threat to various wildlife organisms worldwide and is an important threat to the biodiversity and it involves illegal shooting, trapping, taking of fish, plants from the private property where these are prohibited. Tigers are mainly poached for their bones, skin and other body parts which are used in traditional Chinese medicines. Tigers are the integral part of the ecosystem and poaching of tigers leads to ecological imbalance in the ecosystem. As they are the predators/ top carnivores which feeds on the prey population/ previous levels of carnivores and controls the prey population or consumers population. Due to hunting of tigers, the consumers/ carnivore (prey) population will be increased and then interspecific competition will occur. And, the vegetation will be destroyed rapidly which causes ecological disturbance.
