Comment on the statement “living state is a non-equilibrium steady- state to be able to perform work”.

Answer:

An important fact of biological system is that all living organisms exist in a steady state characterized by concentrations of each of these biomolecules. An equilibrium state is a state in which work cannot be perform. Steady is a non- equilibrium state. Metabolic activities in a biological system always remain on and influx and efflux of metabolites takes place constantly. Hence, it can be said that living state is a non- equilibrium steady state to perform work.
