How is the intracellular levels of ions maintained higher than extracellular levels in animal cells?
Cells have ATP powered pumps like Na+ -K + - pump where 3Na2+ is sent out in exchange of 2K+ ions. Thus increasing the K+ ions level in the intracellular region. In this way through the pumps, ion concentration is maintaining higher than extracellular levels in animal cells.
