How is the presently occurring species extinction different from the earlier mass extinctions?
Extinction is a natural process which refers to the complete disappearance of a species from the Earth. In earlier times, species extinction occurred naturally, i.e. in the absence of human interference which is known as natural extinction. Natural extinction occurs by various causes like volcanic eruption, climate change, sea level change etc. But in present times, the species extinction occurs due to the anthropogenic activities (human interference) which causes very severe depletion of biodiversity. Anthropogenic activities that causes species extinction are as follows: habitat destruction, overexploitation, global warming etc.
