What are interferons? How do interferons check infection of new cells?

Answer:

Interferons are the antiviral proteins produced by the cells when invaded by a virus. These are released from infected and dying host cells. On reaching the nearby uninfected cells, it makes them resistant to the viral infection by the formation of certain proteins which prevent viral multiplication.
