Name the parts of human forebrain indicating their respective functions.

Answer:

Forebrain consists of three parts: cerebrum, Olfactory lobes and hypothalamus. The functions are as follows:

  • Cerebrum: Motor and sensory functions are controlled by cerebrum. It is further divided into 4 lobes:
  1. Frontal lobe: associated with harts of speech, movement, reasoning etc.
  2. Parietal lobe: associated with movement, orientation and perception of stimuli.
  3. Temporal lobe: memory and speech.
  4. Occipital lobe: visual processing. 
  • Olfactory lobes: These are the pair of very small, solid, club shaped bodies widely separated from each other. They are fully covered by the cerebral hemispheres, and are this visible only in the ventral view of the brain.
  • Hypothalamus: It is located just below the thalamus, and is a small and important part of the brain. It controls body temperature, hunger, thirst, mood and emotions and synthesis essential hormones for the body.
