A few chromosomes have non staining secondary constriction at a constant location. Parts of the chromosome beyond the secondary constriction is called as the Satellite. These secondary constrictions at the constant location and can be used as markers and the chromosomes having satellites; such chromosomes are called satellite chromosomes.
