In a plant, tranalocation in xylem is unidirectional while in phloem it is bidirectional. Explain.
In plants, translocation of food is carried out by the phloem from the source to the sinks. But the process is reversed during the season like spring because during that term the food stored in sinks is supplied to the parts of the plant. Thus, the direction of movement in the phloem can be upward or downwards and we can say that it is bidirectional. The translocation in the xylem of mineral ions are unidirectional because the flow occurs from the roots to the top of the plants.
