Write all the geometrical isomers of [Pt | Class 12 Chemistry Chapter Coordination Compounds, Coordination Compounds NCERT Solutions

Question:

Write all the geometrical isomers of [Pt(NH3)(Br)(Cl)(py)] and how many of these will exhibit optical isomers?

Answer:

[Pt(NH3)(Br)(Cl)(py)

From the above isomers, none will exhibit optical isomers. Tetrahedral complexes rarely show optical isomerization. They do so only in the presence of unsymmetrical chelating agents.

We can also regard this as square planar which have 3 geometrical isomer n don't show optical isomerism

"Tetrahedral complexes rarely show optical isomerization" - The geometry is not tetrahedral, it is square planar.
