Among bryophytes, lichens and fern which one is a pioneer species in a xeric succession? 

Answer:

When the succession initiated with the establishment of pioneer communities in the dry land and on the bare rock is known as xerarch succession and their successional stages are called as xerosere. During the succession, early successional species referred to as pioneer species which are usually characterized by commomly high growth rates, smaller size, and high degree of dispersal and contains high rates of per capita population growth too. On the other hand, late successional species commonly have lesser rates of dispersal and colonization, slower growth rate, they are larger and long- lived.

Among the bryophytes, mosses or lichens are the pioneer species because they are present firstly.
