Why is nascent oxygen supported to be toxic to aerobic life forms?
Oxygen is a very highly reactive molecule, when is in nascent form [O]. As we know, an atom combine to form molecules to gain stability. Therefore oxygen in molecular form is less reactive than in nascent form of oxygen. In living forms or aerobic life forms, nascent oxygen can easily react with the biomolecules like DNA, proteins etc. which are present on the cells and this may lead to the mutation and extreme or undesirable metabolic changes.
