Name the part of the alimentary canal where major absorption of digested food takes place. What are the absorbed forms of different kinds of food materials?
Small intestine is the site of major absorption of digestive food. This happens in Jejunum and Ileum which are parts of small intestine and are lined by finger like projections called villi that help in absorption. The semi- digested food from the stomach mixed with gastric secretion (chyme) then is passed into the duodenum through the pyloric sphincter.
Carbohydrates are absorbed in form of glucose. Proteins are absorbed in form of amino acids and fats are absorbed in the form of fatty acids and glycerol.
